Monday, 9 November 2009 10:47 pm3.29. How many times will she fall for his line
Should I tell her or should I keep cool?
And if I tried, I know she'd say I lied
Mind your business, don't hurt her, you fool
Silence Is Golden - The Tremloes
[Follows THIS]
It hadn't been the fact that Lachlan had flat-out refused the surgery that made Tara angry. In fact, she had anticipated that might be the reaction if this time ever came. They had both known it was going to come, but until it was actually being waved in their faces, they had been able to push it to the back of their minds. Then the letter arrived. The surgery could occur in February. All Tara wanted was for him not to make any rash decisions and when his PTSD tried to kick-in, it was her job as his wife to make sure he was okay. He had suffered so long with the pain since he had been shot that the surgery not only promised to ease that, at least a little, but also might increase his chances of being able to conceive if they could locate the actual site of the damage.
She never expected him to tell her it was none of her business.
None of her business?! She was married to him. Had cradled him in her arms when he nearly bled to death. Had sat beside him for weeks on end without knowing if he even had a chance of waking from the coma. Had been by his side ever since, for months and months of excruitiating physio to get him back on his feet. Had given birth to his only child, risking the baby's own health to carry him full term. And it wasn't her business?
( She did know he reacted out of anger. It was out-of-character for him... )

Tara sat on the side of Pat’s hospital bed, one hand gently wrapped around his and her other resting on the handle of the baby buggy parked beside the bed. Her baby son was nestled inside, shooting her bright smiles and tiny giggles when she waved her fingers at him. He had still been a little off-colour when he woke that morning, so they decided to make an appointment with his doctor for a bit of a check over. He was happy enough but he definitely didn’t have the energy he usually did as a curious seven month old. They had an appointment in an hour, so Tara offered to sit with Pat while Lachlan joined Aiden and Cameron outside for a coffee and a bit of fresh air. Tara wasn’t surprised when both men had tried to protest, and she knew more than anyone how it felt to be in their shoes. But she did also know that some fresh air could help clear the head just a little and that was better than the oppressive weight of sitting at a hospital bedside crushing you more and more with each tick of the clock.
( She also knew this whole this was a strain on her husband too... )

Tara shoved her hair out of her face as she unlocked the front door and nudged it open with her hip. She collected an armload of bags from the stoop and grunted softly as she carried them into the foyer of their home. She had spent the day shopping with Evie, the pair of them ending up in Babies-R-Us and having a field day spending loads of money. Everything from new cloth nappies to teething rings to a little baby drum kit was bought. It probably would have been cheaper buying shares in the company. Buying things for their wee boy, however, was never something Tara and Lachlan balked at. They only had one bite at the baby apple, and they wanted to enjoy every minute.
( The only thing was, their wee Riley Patrick was growing up so quickly... )

Sign of times to come?
Friday, 19 June 2009 09:53 pmSitting watching my husband, my cousin and Josh rock out 'Black Betty', Spiderbait style, and instead of sobbing at the noise, my baby boy is kicking his feet, giggling and squealing? I think I've spawned a rock babe, and I'm loving every minute of it.
It's the little moments
Wednesday, 10 June 2009 09:19 pmI love it when he gets broody.
( At Luke's new bar, no doubt plotting something for the new band... )
I would say it's hard being married to a rocker, but it really really isn't. I do wonder if my son will get the same broody face when he grows up, though.

[OOC] Anniversary stuffs!
Wednesday, 20 May 2009 09:03 amI meant to post this sooner, but being away on the weekend, I forgot!
May 16th marked Tara's two year anniversary since her conception and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all those who have helped her grow to the well-rounded character she is today. She was conceived in a now closed House, M.D. RPG, but moved on to muse land when she still wanted a voice when the game faded to black. Since being in muse land, her world has grown, and I am so proud to have her connected to some wonderful, amazing muses written by even more amazing muns. Muse land gave her the current universe she exists in,
princeton2nyc where I love each and every member of her extended family.
She has been a big part of my life since I created her, and she also forcefully played cupid for me and our Connor. Connor is the mun for
drcampbell and we met through the original RPG when he joined a few months after I did. Like our pups, we hit it off from day one and on Christmas Day last year, we got engaged to be married. I used to be a skeptic about romance originating online, but now I'm a huge advocate, for obvious reasons ;) Lachlan and Tara still play a huge part in our fun times and we both hope they are around for a lot longer yet.
To our fellow muns in
princeton2nyc, I love you all. You're wonderful and gifted writers, never failing to keep me hooked on your fantastic plots and pups. It's been nothing but an honour to continuously write with you. And to my darling C, you rock my world, baby. I know things have been tough for you over the last few months and you're still having a bad time of it, but you always get through it with a laugh and cheeky smile on your face, and I love you.
I think that's all. Anything more, and I'll start to cry!
Hug and kisses,
Jamie x

[LOCKED TO RILEY]
Wednesday, 20 May 2009 08:56 amRiley, sweetie, I need your BFF intervention skills. It's nearly time to go back to Princeton, and Lachie's getting depressed. He isn't really forthcoming about much. Can you take him for a drink, even just to give him a change of scenery? RJ's cranky today and it's not very conducive to me getting my better half to open up. I'm exhausted just trying to get the fruit of his loins to stop crying.
Oh, and if he talks about getting a swear word tattooed on his butt cheek, please try and avert the course of the conversation.
Much love xx

Tara waved her hand slowly in front of her husband's glazed eyes and laughed when he blinked and turned to look at her with a sleepy smile. They were sitting in a second-floor bar on Princes Street in Edinburgh, the floor to ceiling windows giving them a pristine view of the Castle looming above them. It wasn't overly late and not quite dark yet, but it was dusk enough to bathe the historical landmark in a soft blue hue. After the harrowing flight from Princeton to Edinburgh, Tara had fully expected them to make it to Lachlan's parents house and beeline for the bed after getting their son settled in his crib. As they touched down, she had been fantasising about a snuggle in a comfy bed with her naked husband, and that really seemed to be the plan after they had a cup of tea with her in-laws and Lachlan's Nana while they gushed and cooed over the baby. But through the second cup of a tea, Lachlan's leg had been bouncing restlessly, and he soon declared that he needed to 'feel home'. He was exhausted himself. Spending a seven hour flight puking your guts up would do that. But he wouldn't be able to rest until had the sense he was home. Being in his childhood home with his parents and grandma wasn't going to cut it, it seemed.
( After convincing Tara that their baby son would be fine with his parents for a wee while, Lachlan took his Dad's car and drove them both into the city centre, all the way up to the Castle esplanade. He had sucked in a deep breath of the Scottish air and ran his hands along the centuries-old cobblestones... )

It's Lachie's birthday on Sunday, as well as Easter. With everything going on, we weren't going to do anything, but at the same time, it'll be nice to get together and I'm under strict orders from Chase that we have to have some sort of party for Lachie.
I'm putting on a dinner, breaking out the SingStar and Guitar Hero and having a bit of a party at our place tomorrow night. Come along if you feel like it, or not it you don't. Lachie doesn't know. He'll try and back out of it if he does, so I'm going to spring it on him at the last minute. It will just be great music and great company, just like Christmas. I promise this time, I won't ruin the night by giving birth.
Love you guys x

Tara decided that if there was going to be a Heaven and she got to choose what it was, it would be this. Lying naked in bed wrapped around her as equally naked husband and feeling his arms locked protectively around her. It wasn't even because they were post-coital, even if they technically were. It was just because it felt right. Her legs were entwined with his and she ran her hand lethargically back and forth across his stomach. "You awake, sweetie?" she asked softly, watching his eyes to see if they would open. She hadn't been sure if he had dozed off in the content haze. She wouldn't begrudge him a nap after what they had just done.
( Lachlan opened his eyes just a little and smiled sleepily at her. )

He really didn’t want to be alone and he had no idea why he told Tara he did. He just hurt all over, but most of all he hurt in his heart. He wasn’t even sure why he hurt that much. Lachlan woke up so quickly and abruptly that he nearly fell off the recliner chair. He caught himself just before he ended up with any broken bones, but the groggy scramble to get up was anything but elegant. Tara looked up from where she was standing over the hospital crib and smiled softly in amusement. It took her husband a few moments to get his bearings before he spotted his wife with his son and he smiled sleepily as he shuffled his way over to her to wrap his arm around her waist and rest his head on her shoulder. “How is he?” he asked, his voice hoarse from the sleep.
( Tara turned back to her son who was watching her intently while his little hand gripped around her thumb. She was using her other hand to gently massage his arms and legs to keep his blood circulating and remind him not everyone that touched him in this place was going to hurt him or prick him... )

It's all a lot of suck
Monday, 23 February 2009 07:25 amMy son is in good hands, he really. He is. He'll be fine. I don't need to call Riley every ten minutes to make sure our angel is okay. He's fine. I'm only holding the phone just in case. It's like... precaution. My finger on the speeddial is by accident...
My son isn't here, my husband is sick and puking, I'm sick and puking, Thai is ruined forever, it was supposed to be our romantic dinner, it was supposed to be our sex night. Sex night! The first nearly 12 weeks! Did I mention my son isn't here? I should call Riley, just in case.
No, fuck. I shouldn't. I'm stupid.
No I'm not. Fuck it. I'm calling. He's my son and he's not here!
... I never thought I would actually miss breastfeeding and dirty diapers.
Dear God, thanks a whole fucking lot.

And sacrifice my everything for just a second's worth

And all the choices that I make won't end up all for nothing

Seeing the distraught state Tara was in sent a shot of panicked nausea through Lachlan’s stomach. He held his hand out as he breached the distance between. “Tara… baby, what’s the matter?” he tried again. Rationality told him it wasn’t anything wrong with their son because he had literally just gotten off the phone with his mother-in-law who had confirmed Riley was just fine.
“No!” Tara cried and tried to turn away from him. The single word came out in a choked sob and she shook her head. “Just stay there! I have to get rid of this! You can’t see it, Lachie, you can’t!”
( Lachlan stopped where he was when she told him to and his eyes dropped down to what she was holding... )

It hadn’t been possible to anticipate just how much room a new baby and all his accessories would quite take up in their modest home. But since coming home from hospital with their baby son, who himself hardly took up any room at all, their house had looked like a baby shop threw up all over it and there was just blue everywhere. Tara wasn’t complaining, though. She adored it. She couldn’t get enough of being a new mummy and a wife, even if she spent about every waking hour exhausted.
This was the first time she had been home alone in ages and she was determined to use it to clear the hall cupboard out so they had a little more room to store all of the baby supplies they were given as gifts. She was so grateful for it all, but it was sitting in plastic bags under the stairs and she wanted to be able to see what was there. Her parents had taken the wee one for the day to enjoy their grandparently duties while Lachlan had taken Pat to the hospital for a doctor’s appointment. The house felt quiet and she was at a loss without her husband or son at her fingertips so she needed to keep busy before she called her Mum and Dad up to demand her son back in a fit of separation anxiety.
( She had two shelves cleared, but it wasn’t nearly enough... )

I never was much of a believer in the whole theory that you will reach a time that things will feel like they have come a full circle. But if déjà vu is tool for argument, then there would be food for thought. I don’t think anyone realised that the hospital bed Chase was lying in following the accident with Rogue was the very same hospital bed my husband lay in over a year ago when he was fighting for his own life. I don’t think even Lachie realises the fact. No one would really blame him if he wanted to block the little details like that out of his mind.
( I knew I had to go and visit Chase at some point... )

Tara was walking backwards up the path to their front door and nearly went arse over tit on a pot plant by the door but caught herself just in time. “Have you got him? You’ve got him, haven’t you? Have you?” she said fretfully, watching her husband handle the baby capsule as he walked behind her. He had her overnight bag slung over one shoulder and the brand new blue tartan baby bag over his other, both hands snugly gripped around the handle of the capsule.
“I’ve got him, beautiful,” Lachlan assured her, walking carefully on the wet path. “If I had him anymore, I’d break the bones in my hand. Watch where you’re going, darlin’. I’m nay having you end up back in hospital when I only just got you both home.”
( Tara waved her hands. “Don’t hold him tighter, then! If you hold him tighter and break your hand, you’ll drop him! Here, let me take him. I’ll take him.” )

Giving birth makes laughing hurt. Which is why it's totally not fair that someone spiked my husband's Dr Pepper causing him to get interestingly tipsy and start serenading my son with 'I Want To Know What Love Is'. The scary part? I think my baby angel likes it.
Thank god we're back in the Maternity Ward. Safer in case my uterus bursts from too much laughing.

Tara was trying to remain calm and keep her emotions in check. It wasn’t an easy thing to pull off when you had enough hormones raging through your body that wanted to make you just sit and cry without stopping. By now, she was starting to really doubt her ability as a mother. Not only was her son not wanting a bar of her feeding him, holding him felt awkward and not at all natural like she was led to believe it would. But at least she could hold him now she got the strength back in her arms after the coma. Lachlan had bought her one of those trendy baby slings too so she could nurse him even if she was feeling tired. That had helped the hurdle she had of even just holding him for short periods of time, but now it was the breastfeeding. Maybe he just preferred a bottle because she was going to really suck at being a mother?
( She kept her arms hugged securely around the little bundle he made, even in the swathe of soft blankets. He was so small and although she remembered how damn painful it was to push him out of her, he didn’t look like he should have hurt much at all... )

Tara knew that dragging tiredness from the last time she was sick enough to fall into a diabetic coma. Her body feeling like it was trapped in a wrap of wet sheets and the inability to keep her eyes open, even if she felt like she had slept for months. Lifting her head, her hands, rolling over in bed… it all felt like she was zapping the very last of her lifetime energy supply. She would never get used to the machines, either. That beeping reminded her too much and too starkly of when Lachlan was shot. The IVs always stung in her hand, too. She should be happy. She should be ecstatic. It should be the happiest time of her life. But she was miserable.
( She swallowed, trying to wet her throat which felt constantly dry now and opened her eyes again... )
