Tuesday, 8 July 2008 08:14 pmTara walked slowly beside Riley in the supermarket, looking at him out of the corner of her eye now and again. His injured hand was in a sling so he didn't accidentally bump it and under the bandages it was lathered in a strong antiseptic cream to keep out any unwanted infections. He definitely wasn't in the same boat as her husband's shopping persona. By now, Lachlan would've had no less than twenty incorrect items in the trolley, partaken in at least three episodes of speeding up and jumping on the back of the trolley for a ride, challenged her to approximately four races up the aisle and pouted about fifteen times when she said no to certain grocery items.
Riley, on the other hand, was quiet, subdued and had barely said anything to her beyond polite answers to her questions. She'd ganged up with Beth to get him out of the apartment. He eventually agreed to help her with the shopping because Lachlan was laid up with the flu, though Tara knew his mind was anywhere but in that supermarket.
She took a small breath and then waved her hand gently back and forth in front of his face. "Earth to Riley," he said with a smile. "It's a miracle you haven't run into anything."
